The Society of Petroleum Engineers

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is the largest individual membership organization serving nearly every type of professional working in the E&P segments of the worldwide oil and gas industry. With over 150,000 members in more than 100 countries, SPE provides a global forum for the exchange of technology to meet the world’s energy needs.

USC SPE

Founded in 1937, the University of Southern California’s Society of Petroleum Engineers (USC SPE) is the student chapter of SPE International centered in the University Park Campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The chapter is dedicated to addressing the technical and non-technical concerns of students across many majors on campus; a goal which it continues to fulfill today through various chapter-organized activities. USC SPE provides its members with a platform to learn, network and expand their horizons with technical sessions, social events, professional development, conferences, networking, industry engagement, training workshops, and much more.

Our Vision

To enable the oil and gas E&P industry to share technical knowledge with the community which is needed to meet the world’s energy needs in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

Our Mission

USC SPE, in partnership with other organizations in the Los Angeles area, is focused on collecting, disseminating, and exchanging technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources and related technologies for the public benefit. Our organization also strives to provide opportunities for chapter members to develop their academic, technical, and professional competencies.

Our Goals

  1. Deliver value to our members that molds their competence, knowledge, and ability to serve in the industry upon graduation.
  2. Increase membership to serve and represent the collective interests of all chapter members in the multi-disciplinary field of petroleum engineering.
  3. Educate the community on the current state pertaining to the oil and gas industry in the interest of enhancing public knowledge, health, safety, and welfare.
