SUMMIT ESP 

USC SPE Student Chapter organized a field trip to Summit ESP field office in Santa Clarita. Our students had an amazing opportunity to explore different kinds of electrical submersible pumps and learn from experienced professionals.

CHEVRON REFINERY

USC SPE partnered with OCEC and LASPE to host a field trip to Chevron's El Segundo Refinery. This tour was conducted entirely from the bus. Two engineering supervisors, Paul Struve and David Beebe, served as tour guides explaining different parts of the facility and answering questions.

CRC THUMS ISLAND

USC SPE organized a field trip for 35 students to THUMS Island White. The AOR Lead Engineer, Ryan Kwong, served as a tour guide for our members. The tour started with watching a safety video, then, on Island White, Mr. Kwong taught our members about the history of THUMS islands, different operations, pumps, and equipment used by their staff.

BLACK GOLD PUMP

USC SPE organized a field trip 20 students to the yard/shop of Black Gold Pump & Supply Inc. in Signal Hill, CA. The tour was a great opportunity to enhance our members knowledge by getting exposure to various types of pumps and their auxiliaries used in the industry. At the end, the staff took us to see a real well and a sucker rod pump, and gave us a detailed explanation of how artificial lift should be applied.

EXXONMOBIL REFINERY

A selected group of USC students was rewarded with the opportunity to attend a tour of ExxonMobil's Baton Rouge Refinery, which is 12th largest refinery in the world. We saw several units, such as the coker, distillation column, etc. And also saw the port on the Mississippi River where the Refinery receives crude from barges.

SCHLUMBERGER

USC SPE organized a field trip for 21 students to Schlumberger's Wireline Facility in Bakersfield, CA. Schlumberger staff started with a safety and HSE session at the facility. Then, wireline, well services, and coiled tubing pumps and equipment were shown. Accordingly, we were split into 5 groups and were switching between 5 different stations. Also, some of our members secure summer internships out of this trip.

VIRGIN ORBIT TOUR

USC SPE, in collaboration with Mork Family Department Graduate Student Association and American Society of Mechanical Engineers, partnered with Orange County Engineering Council and the Orange County Section of Society of Women Engineers to host a field trip to Virgin Orbit’s site in Long Beach, CA. We reserved 10 spots for our students and had an opportunity to learn more about  machine processes integrating rockets.
